About Us – Hall of Books
Hall of Books is a family business, based in deepest rural Shropshire, UK. Run by Shaun and Sarah Sheppard, we sell secondhand books and sheet music online. All the secondhand books and sheet music we sell are owned by us and are in stock. We personally acquire, check, describe, photograph, store, pick, pack and post every item we sell. Shaun manages sales and Sarah manages design and photography. We both have a real love of books, design and music, as well as a deep-seated commitment to customer service. We work very hard to ensure that the service we provide is the very best that we can deliver.
About Us – Photographs
We took the decision from day one to try and photograph every book and piece of sheet music we list and not to rely on stock images. We are sometimes a bit behind but just ask if we haven’t yet uploaded an image for a book you might be interested in – info@hallofbooks.com. Books are tactile things but you can’t touch or feel them online. We felt that our customers should be able to see the actual book they would be getting if they placed an order. Publisher’s glossy promotional shots or, as so often happens, no image at all, are not a good enough substitute. It has also given our website just a hint of a real bookshop and enables customers to browse our inventory and perhaps see books which they didn’t know they might be interested in when they first look at our site.
About Us – Specialities
We have not specialised in any particular genre or subject area, preferring to offer an eclectic….perhaps eccentric!….range that will appeal to both the casual visitor to the Hall of Books website as well as the dedicated collector. Our inventory also reflects our own wide-ranging interests as designers, musicians, authors, photographers, artists, small-holders, property restorers…..and booksellers! You’ll find subject matter as diverse as Classical Music to True Crime, Ornithology to Business and Finance on the Hall of Books website and we add new titles on an almost daily basis. At the moment we seem to have a considerable quantity of Auto/Biography and Crime Fiction, not to mention lots of sheet music but, with so many titles currently in stock, there is a little bit of everything lurking somewhere.
About Us – Background
We started Hall of Books several years ago after long careers in the corporate world. Secondhand books and sheet music sell online in vast quantities and we are grateful that a few of those orders come our way on a daily basis. We have shipped books throughout the UK, but also as far away as Belgium, New Zealand, Switzerland, Sweden, Thailand, Slovakia, Slovenia, Denmark, Hong Kong, Cyprus, India, Croatia, South Africa, Israel, Japan, Estonia, Brazil, Malta, Canada, Australia, USA, Spain, Greece, Iceland, Holland, Norway, Germany, Finland, Ireland, Portugal, Italy and France.
About Us – Location
This is a beautiful part of the country, just a mile from the Welsh Border and Offa’s Dyke. We are surrounded by castles, country houses, half-timbered towns and the now disused canals, railways and quarries of a once thriving industrial area. An area rich in history and ripe for exploration and just an hour away from Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. We now have a small shop in the Award-winning Oswestry Indoor Market, selling a wide range of paperbacks, sheet music and reading accessories. Our shop is open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 09.00am to 15.45pm. Please pop in if you are visiting the area.
